When we decided to go back to Belgium for 2 weeks, our intention wasn’t to spend much time in Belgium – we booked an inexpensive AirBnb that still met most of our wants/needs (kitchen, tv, lounge space, and washer) and started figuring out places we wanted to take 1-2 day trips to! First up was Dusseldorf! Neither Corey nor I had been to Germany so low key we just wanted to see a cool new city and cross a new country off our of travel lists! For the major countries we want to really experience (he and I have different lists, some similarities but also wildly different). He wants tropical, warm, and places with lots of bugs – it’s a no from me dog. Me, on the other hand, I want the Nordic countries, cold + rain don’t bother me, and anything I can dress in layers for/be cozy – sign me up! But so far, we’ve found countries that we both want to visit! When we run out of those I guess we’ll be traveling separately 😜
Anywayyyy, here’s the cool shit we saw, did and where we ate during our trip! And I’m trying to be better at breaking down the total cost because you guys know that I’m transparent about most everything in my life, including finances.
What we did, ate + saw!
Restaurants:
Takumi – excellent ramen, edamame, + vegan gyoza
XOXO Buddha Bowls – very large poke bowls, delish! Had the salmon and tuna bowls
Hans + Gretel – soft bubble waffle cones, cheesecake ice cream and hazelnut ice cream
Holy Craft – beer, if you get a “large” it’s literally half a liter, the Germans don’t skimp on the beer!
——–
Sites + Museums:
Rhine Tower – we honestly didn’t pay the €10 per person to go up the tower because we didn’t care but took cool pics in front of it!
Old Town – tbh, when you’ve seen the old town of one European city, you’ve seen them all. The buildings are beautiful and old but half the old town is renovated into new stores like Zara and the other half is trendy touristy restaurants.
Kunstasammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen – beautiful art museum housing some very old works and art by Warhol, Dali, Picasso, and other big named artists! Worth the entry price.

Hotel:
Moxy Dusseldorf City – when we do 1-2 day trips we tend to stay in a Moxy chain because they cost the fewest Marriott points and are fairly centrally located or just slightly outside of the hustle and bustle of wherever we’re traveling to. This is true both inside and out of the US. This one was the most crowded of any Moxy I’ve ever been to but had a good breakfast (European Moxy is way better than American) and was 10 min walk from the transit stations.
Total Cost Breakdown for 2 People:
Transportation:
FlixBus €117.92
Metro Pass x4 €8.40
——–
Meals, Snacks + Drinks:
€176.23
——–
Museum:
€32
——–
Total: €334.55 // $365.53
